COLUMBUS - The proposed library/cultural arts center project has taken another step forward.
City Council approved the $370,000 purchase of the old Gene Steffy lots, between 23rd and 24th Ave. on 14th St., with supporters wanting to use the land for both the proposed $17.5 million facility and parking.
The project, if approved, would be publicly and privately funded. The Columbus Library Foundation is aiming to raise between $6 and $8 million through families, businesses and grants.
The vote passed on a 5-3 vote with Beth Augustine-Schulte, Charlie Bahr, Rich Jablonski, Ron Schilling, and John Lohr in favor. Jim Bulkley, Dennis Kresha, and Terry Reardon voted against.
Council next meets on September 21st.
