COLUMBUS - A short pursuit through Columbus Sunday evening led to two arrests and felony drug charges. Columbus Police Captain Todd Thalken says the pursuit began near 12th Street and 24th Avenue, when an officer began pulling over 29-year-old Ricky Johnson of Genoa for not having a license plate. Thalken says when the officer turned on his lights, Johnson took off in the 1991 Buick Century and led police on a twenty minute pursuit. After driving across a large portion of Columbus, the pursuit ended near 10th and 11th Street between 23rd and 24th Avenue, where Johnson and 25-year-old passenger Jorge Santos attempted to flea on foot. Johnson and Santos were taken into custody around 11:30 p.m. Sunday evening, and face multiple misdemeanor and felony charges. Johnson faces a felony charge for driving under suspension after previously receiving his 5th DWI offense, in addition to felony flight to avoid arrest. Johnson and Santos will also face felony and misdemeanor drug charges, after officers found meth and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
