SCHUYLER - Saturday afternoon's basketball in Schuyler saw competitive play, as the Fairbury boys won 48-46, and the Schuyler girls claimed a 50-45 overtime win. The boys contest saw seven lead changes in the first half with neither team leading by more than two-possessions. Fairbury held a 21-19 lead at halftime and only lost the lead for a short time in the fourth quarter. The Jeffs never could build a significant lead as three-point shooting, 11 made, kept Schuyler close. The Warriors had the ball in the final seconds with a chance to win, but missed a lengthy three-pointer. Blake Bauer topped Fairbury with 16 points, another 10 came from Adam Wasserman. Connor Flynn led the Warriors with 17, with five three-pointers. Cody Zrust scored 11. Fairbury's boys move to 8-10 with the win, their first road victory over Schuyler since 2012. Schuyler fell to 3-15. Meanwhile, the girls game was a rematch of a lopsided 48-29 contest from the previous week's Central Conference tournament. The banged-up Fairbury squad had a rough start, trailing 11-4 at the end of the first quarter. However, impressive defense in the second quarter put the Jeffs up 21-14 at halftime. They held the lead until late in the fourth quarter, where they traded it until settling on overtime. Schuyler scored the first five points of OT and never looked back. Fairbury was set to get the ball back late down by one-possession off a missed free throw, but an offensive rebound and quick score by Becca Folda sealed it for the Warriors. Maddy Wolfe and Reagan Folda each scored 12 for Schuyler, with Lauren Kasik adding 10. Regan Schmidt topped Fairbury with 11. Fairbury drops to 4-15, Schuyler improves to 3-15.
