COLUMBUS - A local golf course is getting a new shed to store its golf carts. City Council approved the construction of a $304,965 facility that will house 60 carts at Quail Run, with the hopes of saving money by prolonging the carts' shelf-life to 12 years, while also eliminating vandalism and deterioration. Terry Reardon noted that council had budgeted $50,000 a year, for six years, in anticipation of the project. Besides the original $304,000 price tag of construction, the project engineer will be paid approximately $21,000 in additional fees. One citizen spoke against the project's eventual approval. John Curry accused City Administrator Joe Mangiamelli's analysis, that the shed would save $387,000 in cart replacements over the years, of being “horribly wrong,” and calling it an “absolutely atrocious waste of taxpayer money.” However, the majority of council disagreed with Curry. The construction of the cart shed passed on a 6-2 vote with Beth Augustine-Schulte, Charlie Bahr, Rich Jablonski, Ron Schilling, Terry Reardon and John Lohr in favor. Jim Bulkley and Dennis Kresha voted against. Council next meets on September 21st.
