SCHUYLER - Kids in Schuyler, along with their parents, had the chance to get a workout Friday afternoon. The athletes either ran or walked a mile around Schuyler elementary as a part of the Touching Kids Hearts one-mile race. Participants could either run or walk for the event with some choosing to do a little bit of both. 5th grade teacher at Schuyler Ingrid Rodriguez, is in charge of the Mileage Club and the Warrior Academy at the school, she says it wasn't hard to get the little ones to run. “Pretty good, especially with the kids, the kids were really excited todo something with their parents, their family members,” says Rodriguez. 272 kids and parents took part in the event, with over 200 pre-registering alone. It wasn't just the elementary school children racing either, there were divisions for adults, high school and middle school age kids as well. Rodriguez says the goal of the event was to get some one-on-one interaction between parents and their kids. “We really want to get families to come and spend time with their kids, so that's pretty much the point of the running race,” says Rodriguez. This event was being offered free of charge on Friday.
