Basketball:
Senior forward Shavon Shields had a career night in his final game at Pinnacle Bank Arena, but it wasn't enough to lift Nebraska to victory of Purdue. The Boilermakers' size was too much for the Huskers in a 81-62 loss for Nebraska (14-16, 6-11). Despite falling behind 30-9 in the first half, Nebraska battled back to within six points late in the first half. But Purdue pulled away in the second half.
Nebraska has one final regular season game before the Big Ten Tournament. The Huskers play Northwestern Sunday on the road. That game may be the determining factor in whether or not Nebraska is forced to play on the first day of the Big Ten Tournament.
Today is our Husker Luncheon at the Wooden Windmill, in Fremont. Kent Pavelka, from the Husker Sports Network will be the guest speaker. Doors open at 11:00. The all-you-care-to-eat Mexican Buffet is $15 and there will be many great prizes given away. The program begins at 12 noon.

Nebraska track and field head coach Gary Pepin was named Big Ten Men's Indoor Coach of the Year for the second straight year, the conference office announced on Tuesday after a vote by the league's coaches. It marks the 26th conference coach-of-the-year honor for Pepin since 1997, when the Huskers started competing in the Big 12. Pepin led the Husker men to a dominating win at the Big Ten Indoor Championships over the weekend. The Huskers totaled 116 points, 43 more than the runner-up, to give Pepin his 71st overall conference team title and 31st indoors.
The Big Ten also announced its sportsmanship award honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The Nebraska men's honoree was Landon Bartel and women's honoree was Tierra Williams.
