COLUMBUS - Close to 500 women gathered in Columbus for a common cause.
The 6th Annual Columbus Go Red For Women Ladies Night Out was held at the Ramada Inn Tuesday evening as women from all around the area wore red in support of the fight against heart disease.
“It's just a reason to make other women aware, and to be able to spread awareness and prevention, and celebrate each other,” event chairwoman Ann Suiter shared.
The night consisted of a silent auction, diner and program which was highlighted by two keynote speakers. Eighteen-year-old Savannah King shared her story to the 480 attendees after heart failure hospitalized her last September.
“Before I couldn't walk up like three steps. I'd get sick. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't do anything, but now I'm one-hundred-percent better,” King said.
King was diagnosed three months after flu-like symptoms started affecting her. The Columbus High graduate believes it's never too early to seek medical attention if something doesn't feel right.
“Hopefully no one else has to go thorough it like I did. Now I'm just glad to be here, glad to be in the world.”
All proceeds from the evening are going towards heart heath awareness as the disease affects one in every three women.
