DUNBAR - Colten and Dessi Blacketer escaped a fire at their family home near Dunbar Friday morning. Colten Blacketer said his sister woke to the smell of black smoke and called to wake him and a roommate. He said, “It was the weirdest thing. My sister woke me up. We woke up to black smoke and went to the laundry room, where all the clothes were on fire. We still have no idea what started it.” He raced to the source of the smoke in the laundry room and hoped to put out the fire with a pitcher of water. He soon realized the fire was out of control and called to his sister to get out of the house, but could not find her. He said there were some frightening moments, until the he found his sister upstairs and they were on their way to safety. They went to their mother's residence nearby, when they heard Jason Moyer of Syracuse, pounding on the door of the burning house trying to alert anyone inside. They returned to the house and opened a back door, freeing a dog and cat. Blacketer, 18, said he had lived in the house all of his life. When asked what it meant, he said “Everything. It's terrible to see it go up in flames like this."
