DAVID CITY - In a tradition that goes back ten years, St. Josephs Court retirement home held a soup supper in David City Thursday evening.
The public was invited to dine inside the home and enjoy chicken noodle soup, chili and pies that were made by the residents themselves.
In past years they have gotten over 125 people to attend the three hour dinner and according to soup supper organizers Karen Smaus and Christina Kadaby, the dinner is an open house invitation for the whole area.
"We get the community into the facility and get to visit. Our residents get to visit with people they don't normally get to see," says Smaus.
“It brings family members in too. And different staff members that get to come in and help,” says Kadaby.
The event was originally started a decade ago because they were trying to raise money for a big screen TV. They got the TV but the tradition continued. They now use the money for things that the residents want such as flower planters and outdoor seat cushions.
This is not the only dinner that the retirement home holds during the year either. They also have a charity dinner in March with Italian food.
