COLUMBUS - The Nebraska Department of Roads talked to the public in Columbus Tuesday to gather input on which northeast Nebraska projects they can focus in on in the future.
This is all apart of the Build Nebraska Act, which is a $1.2 billion project that was approved in 2011. 17 projects were approved for the first ten years of the program and currently those projects are either finished, under construction or in development.
The Columbus meeting was all about where NDOR goes in the ten years, after the first leg is completed in 2023. 59 projects are under proposal, with those to be narrowed down in the summer.
So NDOR was there to gather input on the current candidates and according to Deputy Director of Policy and Administration Miki Esposito, they may add others to the list.
“We are also asking them if there are any projects that we missed, that they care about, that they don't see on the list, that they wanted to add,” says Esposito.
They have $600 million to spend this time around and NDOR engineer Kevin Domogalla, they are looking at several projects in the area.
“The completion of the expressway system of course that portion of 81, south of highway 64. That's been one of the projects that has been on our program book for quite sometime,” says Domogalla.
Domogallo also said they are looking at expansion north of Norfolk and on Highway 13 from Hadar to Pierce.
If you weren't able to make the Columbus forum, you can either go to the public meeting in Ashland on Thursday, January 21st, or you can comment on the Next Ten Years Page on the Nebraska Department of Roads website: http://www.roads.nebraska.gov/projects/bna/next10/.
