All but 10 teams in Eight Man-1 next season will qualify for the football playoffs.
The Nebraska School Activities Association has released the football classifications for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In eight man - which qualifies 32 teams in each of two classes - teams whose school enrollment in grades 9-10-11 is more than 83 are ineligible for the playoffs. For 2016, 11 of the 53 teams in the larger-school class - Eight Man-1 - exceed the cutoff. Some of those 11 could become eligible in 2017 if their schools' enrollments fall to 83 or under.
Class C-1 will shrink from 47 to 43 teams, C-2 from 48 to 44 and both eight-man classes from 54 to 53, but with the split coming at 63 instead of 61. Six Man grows from 18 to 25 teams.
