Stephen Knott set to Enter Plea in District Court Monday Morning

COLUMBUS - Stephen Knott is set to enter a plea in Platte County District Court Monday morning. The 23-year-old is facing felony charges for 1st Degree False Imprisonment and Strangulation after an incident that took place in March of 2015. In addition, Knott also faces a misdemeanor charge for violating a protection order during his stay at the Platte County Detention Facility. The charges stem from a March 2nd incident where, according to court documents, he kidnapped an ex-girlfriend for ten hours forcing her to drive to Norfolk and back while striking her in the head, forcing her to perform a sexual act, and assaulting her again once arriving back in Columbus. Police say the victim received several staples in her head as a result of the injuries. In addition, an early morning incident on Friday, March 6th, leading to a man hunt and four-hour standoff with the Columbus Police, Platte County Sheriff's Office, and Nebraska State Patrol at the residence on 754 21st Avenue in Columbus, NE. According to Columbus Police Officer Josh Loontjer, at approximately 5:45 a.m. on March 6th, Knott approached the car of his ex-girlfriend and her mother as they were dropping a common child with Knott off at a residence on 1810 7th Street. An altercation then occurred where Knott attempted to fire the gun at his ex-girl friend, her mother, and a man at the home before fleeing on foot. Police found four rounds of 9mm handgun ammunition at the scene. Knott's appearance in court is set for 10:50 a.m. Monday morning.
