LINCOLN - Stanton took on Shelby/Rising City Friday morning, and just like the last time these two teams squared off the match went all five sets.
The Huskies dealt the opening blow taking the first set 25-22. The Mustangs answered back winning the next two sets 25-23 and 26-24. Shelby/Rising City was not ready to give up and came back to with a 25-21 fourth set. It was a battle until the very end, but Stanton held on to take the fifth set 15-13.
“They just dug deep and went back to their fundamentals, where they needed to go back to,” states Stanton Head Coach, Tracy Kuesterburtwistle, ” On our end we knew it was going to be a tough game. When we were in district finals, we went five sets and they were all close sets. So we knew coming into this game, it was going to be probably another five setter.”
For the Mustangs senior Hillary Huss had 21 kills, followed closely by freshman Jessie Brandl with 14. You cannot say the Huskies lost due to lack of effort, senior Emmie Noyd ended the night with 31 kills and senior Macy Stewart had 16 as well.
Shelby/Rising City ends the season with a record of 22-10 and the Stanton Mustangs move forward to take on Hastings St. Cecilia at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday November 14th at the Devaney Center in Lincoln.
