COLUMBUS - Columbus Police are currently investigating a counterfeit/forgery case, after two forged checks were passed to local businesses. Reports say both cases were called in around 1:20 p.m. Thursday, for forged checks written at both Pizza Ranch and Super Saver. Columbus Police Captain Todd Thalken says the check written to Pizza Ranch was worth $63.09, while the check to Super Saver was worth $186.89. Thalken says the same name appeared on both of the checks, and that police are currently investigating the situation. Although the forged checks were reported to police Thursday, they could've been written at an earlier date. Thalken says the checks must first pass through a bank before they are identified as forged and reported to police. If you have any information regarding this or any other crime, contact the Columbus Police Department at 402-564-3201, or Platte County Crime Stoppers at 402-563-4000.
