LINOCLN - The Shamrocks made quick work of their first round opponent in the Class C1 State Tournament Thursday evening.
Scouts took on 4th-seeded Ogallala at Lincoln Northstar, taking down the Indians in straight sets to advance to the semifinals.
“The first set we played really well and they didn't play well,” Scotus Head Coach Joe Held explained. “We knew that wasn't going to be the case the next two sets because they're a really good volleyball team.”
Despite Ogallala taking leads in the second and third sets, the Shamrocks always rallied. The 3-0 win wasn't necessarily something Held was expecting.
“I figured it would be someone in four or five for sure against those guys so I'm really proud of our girls. They had the right mindset again, our preparation was good. Our coaches did a great job scouting, the players did a great job executing, and that's the difference when you come down here.”
With the win the Shamrocks will face a familiar opponent in Kearney Catholic. Scotus fell to the Stars in the semifinals last year before Kearney Catholic went on to win the state title.
“We're going to have to play our best game of the year tomorrow, but it's the state semifinals so you don't want it any other way,” Held said. “The biggest thing is if we can play our best tomorrow we're going to be happy with the outcome.”
The contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday in the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
