ORCHARD, NE-Thursday morning a young bull moose was spotted in Orchard, a rural area in Antelope County. Steve Stelling, the man who spotted the moose about two miles south near his property Thursday morning. Stelling and his wife came within 10 yards of the moose before they say it took off heading southwest. This wouldn't be the first time a moose found its way in this area. about 20 years ago a moose was spotted and ended up hanging out in the area for a few months. With rifle season in progress there are a few things hunters should be aware of with a moose on the run. Nebraska Game and Parks District Manager, Wildlife Biologist Tom Welstead explains the concern. “There is a concern with deer hunters but realistically there shouldn't be any confusion with a moose because they are much darker and larger than deer and the antlers don't resemble a deer's. Elk however can be confused with a deer." Welstead says there are other things that hunters need to remember during riffle season. "They need to make sure of their target before they shot. Before they shoot they should always make sure they are shooting at something legal." Nebraska Game and Parks aren't sure where this moose came from but they think it came from Wyoming. Three weeks ago two different bull moose were seen in the Valentine area, so they think this may be one of those.
